Dear Choral Arts Initiative Supporter,
On April 26, 2013, I founded the Choral Arts Initiative with the belief that we could truly change lives in our community through choral music. I further believed that Orange County and the surrounding area deserved an ensemble and organization that placed equal emphasis on education, community outreach, performance, collaboration, and initiative.
On April 22, 2013, I wrote to you and many others to ask for initial support:
“For a few years, it has been a long-term vision and goal of mine to form a performing arts organization that will revitalize and infuse the Orange County community with inspiring choral music. This group will serve to foster, promote, and perform new choral works by living composers, while also performing the "classics" already in the established in the repertoire.
In the years that follow, I envision that this group will do more than just perform. It will have an education outreach component to advocate for music education in the public schools. It will offer programs for students to learn and explore choral music. It will attract young and emerging composers from the California region and beyond so that we may bring their music to life. This group is here to stay, and we will continue to grow in the years to come. The only way to go is up. . . ”
Since our performance last June, the initial Mission and Vision for Choral Arts Initiative has remained at the forefront of all our planning and endeavors. We are launching a pilot Education & Community Outreach program in multiple high schools, working with composers both locally and globally to serve as a voice for their new music, and commissioning the creation of new choral works. These are just some of the many milestones we have reached this first year. When I am asked how we have managed to do so much in such a short amount of time, my response is simple: “Our community of supporters.”
On our first anniversary, I would like to personally thank you for your continued support and for standing by our side every step of the way. None of our progress would happen without your patronage and encouragement. Our shared musical journey has been incredibly rewarding—and to think this is still just the beginning.
I invite you to continue to stay connected to us as a member of our ever-growing family of supporters. More importantly, I hope to see you at our upcoming performance, Reconciliation, on July 19, 2014.
You are the reason we sing and continue to sing.
